Learner Assets

Room 12 and 14 have been starting our Monday mornings off learning about Learner Assets, particularly Collaboration. Today was lots of fun as we created our Paper Wheels. You can read what the challenge was below. We had 25 minutes to build our Paper Wheel in a Collaborative group, then we had a race with the other groups. To finish off we assessed ourselves and each other with our Collaborative skills

Learner Led Conferences

Week 9 has been a big week.  First of all our reports went home and then we had LLCs (Learner Led Conferences)  We made little cut outs of ourselves and attached QR codes that connected to our blogs.  We had a great time scanning ourselves and sharing our blogs with our whanaus.  We then showed the our Goal Setting book, self created timetables and our workshops walls.  It was awesome sharing all our learning with our families.  Mrs Poole was proud of all the hard work we had to share and the way we confidently shared it.

Paper Dolls

On Friday some tragic events happened in Christchurch.  Like so many New Zealanders, 2 learners in the Bay of Plenty are struggling to understand why someone would attack a group of people because of their race and religious beliefs.  They decided to take action and show the shooters actions don't define our New Zealand.  They want to create a long, long line of paper dolls that show all different culture together holding hands.  They hope to make the longest paper doll chain in the world.  Currently 4km is the world record.
Mangapapa School is helping out and we have created our own paper dolls to add to the chain.  We all have created and coloured three paper dolls each.  Before we begun we watched a clip about being different and that it's OK to be different.  Kia Kaha Christchurch.

Fantastic Fingers

Today for Fantastic Fingers we made friendship bracelets.  First we had to cut 7 pieces of wool about 1 metre long.  We then had to use make the cardboard discs to put the wool onto.  We used cans to trace around to make a circle.  Next we put a dot in the middle of our circle and then ruled across the circle 4 times, we made a hole in the middle and made 2cm cuts along the lines we had rules.  Then we had to knot our wool together and thread it through the hole and thread the 7 pieces into the lines.  We were then ready to start our bracelets! We built up our finger strength with all the fiddling and then the threading.  We also had our REACH values in use, we collaborated and helped each other out.  Everyone was focused and engaged!

Famous Faces - ESCAPE ROOM

Image may contain: one or more people

Today R14 became Secret Agents with Secret Agent names! We were in charge of Facebook security while Mark Zuckerburg went on holiday to Fiji.  Every night between 12 am and 1 am he locks the website so that no one can hack into it.  In the morning when he returns to work he unlocks it.  He has left us in charge of all security while he is gone.  Every night at midnight we need to enter the 4 digit code.  If we don't Facebook could go down and millions of customers would be unhappy!
Mark didn't write down the code for fear of someone stealing and told it to us behind locked doors. Right before it was time, we sneezed and hit our head on the table, forgetting the 4 digit pin!! We had to crack 4 different codes to remember the 4 digit number - we had to hurry as we only had 1 hour to do it!
At the same time we were developing our Growth Mindset and resilience - we learnt about stars who had shown they had a Growth Mindset and cracked clues about Growth Mindset!
